Become a 'Make Child Poverty History' Champion

While there is no simple way to eradicate child poverty, there are innumerable ways to help, to be a champion for the cause. If you think about it, there is certainly something you can do, today. The problem of child poverty is so vast and increasing manifold that without the involvement of committed torch bearers, it becomes an even more daunting task to alleviate it. These champions could be individuals, sponsors, partner organizations or charitable institutions that work towards the cause of MCPH.

Here is a story of Karen Sullivan-Correa, a WSI Internet Consultant, who is a strong MCPH champion, steadfastly focused on the goal of this program. Not only does she champion the cause, but she is constantly looking to inspire and encourage more fellow champions. Read on...

An MCPH champion does not have to be an individual or organization that takes on large scale events or makes enormous donations. In fact, we need champions who can strive to achieve the MCPH goal – to help make child poverty history, one child, one village at a time. If you think you can help uplift a single child out of poverty into a better life that provides clean water, a balanced diet and basic education, you are the champion we are looking for.

Poverty – it’s within our power to make it history; if only we begin today and don’t stop until the task is done.

Here are some simple yet effective ways in which you can become an MCPH champion:

Be an e-champion: Send a monthly email inviting people to join hands in the cause. Even if you are able to get more people to visit this website it will draw in greater support for MCPH.

Organize a special event: This could be as simple as a barbecue in your backyard where you invite a few friends over. It doesn’t have to be a big fund-raiser. In fact, it could even be a “friend-raiser” – give out an MCPH “friendship band” and ask your friends to donate whatever they will in exchange. You’ll be surprised at how generous people can be; they just need the opportunity and the inspiration. If one child can hope to see a brighter future because of your friend-raiser, you are a champion!

Workplace giving: Become an MCPH champion at your workplace. Get your co-workers involved.

Matching gift programs: Many organizations love the idea of a matching gift where employees contribute to a cause and the organization matches or often, even doubles the contribution. It could start with a simple garage sale or a craft exhibition or a bake sale in your office lunchroom. Encourage your management to match the funds raised in this manner.

Tribute / memorial contributions: So many of us have attended / organized an event or function held in memory of someone. That someone doesn’t have to be a publicly known figure. A dear departed grandmother who loved children (including you!) would probably smile on you from heaven brighter than ever before, if you sponsored a child in her memory.      For more ideas on how you can be an MCPH Champion please visit “You Can Make a Difference"
